This could possibly become your new “staple smoothie” it’s so easy and so good.
Plus it has an extra kick. Have you heard of MCT oil yet? You’re probably already consuming MCT’s if you’re using coconut oil in your diet.
MCT’s are Medium Chain Triglycerides (or Fatty Acids). And coconut oil is mostly MCT’s. Other sources include grass fed butter, whole milk yogurt, and palm oil.
MCT’s are easier to digest than long chain fatty acids, can help boost fat burning, metabolism, brain health, as well as fight viruses and bacteria. It’s pretty awesome stuff.
Anyone consuming a standard Western Diet is probably not getting enough fats so MCT oil is an incredible source of good fat.
The difference between coconut oil and MCT oil is concentration. Coconut oil is a source of MCT, but specific MCT oils are concentrated forms of all MCT’s that may be hard to get from other foods. So adding it to your smoothies can give you an even bigger boost in value than coconut oil.
You can find MCT oil on Amazon or your local health food store.
This is a super simple Smoothie with a hint of sweetness. And adding in an oil makes it an even better source of protein + good fats. You can even throw in a handful of spinach for your veggies.
**I used a Vanilla Plant Based Protein for this recipe so you can use the Vanilla protein of your choice. Whey Protein would be fine, I think, but it may make it more “frothy” and I’m also trying to keep it dairy free.
- 2 cups Almond Milk
- ¼ cup almond butter
- 2 scoops Vanilla Protein
- 5 dates pitted and sliced
- 1 Tsp vanilla or almond extract
- 1-2 T MCT oil or coconut oil
